David Egilman Needs Research Help for Projects Related to Suing Corporations for Illness – Job

Within the toxic tort litigation world, Dr. David Egilman of Brown certainly ranks high on the list of expert witnesses that are especially controversial as between many plaintiff’s lawyers and many defense lawyers. He operates Never Again Consulting, and the business apparently is a regular advertiser on idealist. In a bold move, he once sued defense lawyers and other experts. He also took out an ad in a journal to publish a paper that a journal rejected. Today, he is the Editor-in-Chief for the International Journal of Occupational and Environmental Health.

As for his testimony, courts sometimes refuse to allow him to testify, but he presses on. His Vioxx related work created a range of issues – see here, and produced a range of events in and out of court.

Job description

Our busy office seeks a Deputy Editor/ Researcher Writer

You will work in consultation with the Editor in Chief in the initial evaluation of manuscripts for interest and quality and intermediate and final decision-making based on peer reviewers’ input. You will be responsible for the management of the review process, including monitoring and management of the submissions website; selection of and follow up with peer reviewers; providing substantive feedback on manuscripts in accordance with reviewer comments and editorial policy; ensuring compliance with journal policies; and managing communications with authors, reviewers, and publishers. The candidate should have graduate – post-graduate training or experience in public health epidemiology, toxicology, health policy, occupational or environmental medicine or a related field; excellent English writing and editing skills; familiarity with research databases in public health and medicine; ability to meet deadlines; ability to communicate effectively via email with a wide range of people from around the world. In addition to your work with the journal you will also be working independently and as part of a team to complete research • writing long and short pieces on the public health impacts and implications of various corporate actions for publication in leading environmental and occupational health journals and other venues • preparing and assisting in the presentation of these materials nationwide, generally in cases where victims are suing corporations for causing their illnesses. All candidates MUST be able and willing to travel frequently and work some weekends.
