The right to terminate one’s life is a difficult and emotional subject. End of life concerns are important – they almost inevitably run through the mind of persons who are terribly disabled or dealing with a terminal disease. Therefore, those concerned with the subject will want to read the UK Supreme Court’s new ruling on the subject. I’ve not yet read the opinion, but it is said to significantly advance the cause of setting a clear path to the right to terminate one’s life, in part by pushing the UK Government to legislate or face a common law decision. Analysis of the opinion – and links to the opinion and more – are provided in a June 25, 2014 blog post from the UK Supreme Court blog.
